SPRING NEWS 2022
Spring 2022 is in full swing and so isn't our work in Honduras. Thank you for your support to make a world of difference for the future of Honduras.
MEET OUR STUDENTS
February started a new school year for our students taking general studies and English classes. Meet the eight students in our tuition program: Jairo, Michell, Jorge, Yajaira, Angie (Michell's sister), Victor, Angie and Rosalita. They have all begun their classes and are very excited to be given this opportunity to better their lives with education.
Our students are from all backgrounds, even from the most dangerous neighborhoods. We’re inspired by our faith to help those in need the most. If you’d like to partner with us, click the button below and you too can become someone’s hope for a better tomorrow.
SPRING MISSION TRIP…
Many thanks to all who recently helped with last month's mission trip donations. The following are the ways we were able to be love, provide hope and serve others while in Honduras.
JEREMIAH ORPHANAGE
Wow, this visit to Jeremiah was a long time coming. It had been over two years since we last visited. In March 2020 when the Honduras government closed its borders the night after our arrival, Covid-19 restrictions only allowed us to meet up Jeremiah’s youth and Chuck at the mall in San Pedro Sula to give them vitamins. We drove around trying to find a restaurant, but all were closed. Summer of 2021, our visit with them was postponed due to health emergency for the home's Dad, Chuck. Upon this visit, were all overjoyed we could finally bring donations ranging from cleaning supplies and clothing to a few laptops to help with schoolwork.
This is a home to 40+ orphans. While there, Mom Joyce gave us a tour of the updates they have done since our last visited. They are currently raising chickens, goats, pigs and iguanas and have built a greenhouse to grow their own vegetables to be more self-sustaining.
After the tour, we helped the kids with their homework, played some games and then met up with Jose, a boy who formerly lived at Senderos Orphanage. Jose was recently placed in Jeremiah’s care. He’s doing well, going to school, healthy and growing like a weed. Although our visit was brief, we shared many moments of joy and blessings for a lifetime of memories.
Our day at SAN ANTONIO, CORTES
Dusty, littered with garbage, this poor remote town once seemed prosperous with its broken-down large motels looming on the hills in the background. Yet, the only road we travel to reach it was still full of potholes but in better repair than our previous visit with the medical brigade last summer. It only took us 40 minutes to drive from the base vs an hour! The mountains are covered with crops of plantains and corn, but when we finally reach the top, there are kids in school uniforms, a park in the center, a dusty road with horses and pigs wandering untethered.
When we finally make it to the church, we park on a rutted road at a 45-degree angle and its hot! Loads of donated groceries need to be brought up massive flights of stairs to the house where the food is stored and cooked. Three times a week this church opens its doors and feeds about 80-100 children and 50 adults, all who survive on one meal a day. Malnutrition and parasites are a reality to these families. Yet, there’s also pure joy that we experience with the children when we play soccer and games with them. They delight in showing us a new dance or playing duck duck goose. They love playing soccer in dresses and long pants on a 90-degree day and never beg for anything or even ask for a drink… they just accept the time we have together. And when we say goodbye, you can see they are grateful and ask, “When will you return?” And we too are grateful to have experienced this community and connecting without common words, but with an unspoken love that we’ve shared …and this remains within.
SOCCER, SENDEROS AND STUDENTS
On the first night and on our last, we were able to meet up with our Heart4Honduras sponsored students, youth formerly from Senderos Orphanage, our H4H staff, volunteers and mission team. We had two nights of soccer, ping pong and shared meals together. It was an opportunity to welcome us and say goodbye, to share our lives and have some laughs, to invest in each other more than with words, to experience traditional Honduran food and Little Cesar’s pizza, to give hugs, love on their babies and simply enjoy. 6 years ago, who would have ever guessed orphans, friends, co-workers 3,000 miles away could become family… Thank God He made a way <3
OUR LATEST HONDURAN PARTNERS...
Agribusiness - Tikvah Ranch
We're harvesting corn and plantains! And for the first time, we’ve turned a profit!! God is good. All profits are being reinvested into planting more crops. The goal is by next year, the farm will be thriving and a portion it's proceeds will go towards our scholarship program to help educate orphans and youth in need in Honduras. Stay tuned!
Our New Education Partners!
In January, we partnered with Embraced International and we are helping a new family!
Yajaira, 14, and Jorge, 12, are two orphaned children who live with their grandmother. Their grandmother is a “peddler” (according to google Translater that is the word) and she sells spices and different things that she packs into little bags and sells to pulperías in different neighborhoods (walking). Her income is just enough for them to live on.
Embraced International recently helped them built a house and provided the furniture they needed. With our partnership, Yajaira and Jorge were able to start school February 1st. God is good!
