providing
Shoes+ for children
The children of San Antonio barely have shoes let alone socks. They often walk places and play sports barefoot. Your donation of $5 will help purchase a pair of shoes for a child. That’s the cost of a cup of coffee at Starbucks!
This part of the world also cannot afford to buy personal hygiene items. With your generous $10 donation, we will purchase a pair of shoes in Honduras, PLUS socks, a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, deodorant, razors, soap, etc… on your behalf.
By donating $25, we will purchase a child a pair of shoes, socks, personal hygiene items and some food supplies for their family.
Why we prefer
monetary donations vs. physical donations
We value a sustainable approach to giving and to ensuring the lasting effect of our efforts continue on once our plane heads back to the United States. Giving has it’s consequences and we have learned that physical donations received are actually often manufactured in Honduras (such as socks)!
“When people in the target community already have an economy functioning in part on the sale and repair of the stuff you want to donate (shirts in this instance), then dumping a million of them free is the economic equivalent of an atom bomb.”
~Richard Stupart, “Seven Worst International Aid Ideas”1
Therefore, we take a systemic approach. We use the money saved not having additional baggage so we can purchase items needed in Honduras. This means, we’re able to buy more for less and pour the money back into Honduras’ economy.
We are also a not-for-profit business. Each member pays out-of-pocket to travel for the mission work we do and all funds raised are used to directly implement programs to help Hondurans create businesses, complete their education and provide clean drinking water.
Hopefully this explanation helps you understand why we value monetary donations, so that we can purchase goods within their own country, stimulating their economy and distributing products based on the need 💛♥️
