Humility.

In the 80’s, in a small town there was a mechanic. He was the best mechanic in town, and people traveled long distances to have him fix their cars because he was known as the best around. He fixed engines with great precision. But over the years, he grew older and slower, but people still believed in him because of his many years of experience. One day, a young man arrived into town. He appeared rich, smart and handsomely dressed. The young man went to the famous mechanic in town and asked if he could work for him in his small workshop. Delighted, the mechanic answered him in the most superb way possible.

As the time passed, the young man opened his own workshop, and that workshop was a success. Little by little people preferred to bring their cars to the young man’s workshop, while the old mechanic was without customers. One day this old mechanic offered to work for the young mechanic, but the young mechanic said no.

As time went by, a very important person came to the town and decided to take his old Rolls Royce to the young mechanic. After spending hours on it, the young man could not repair the engine of this car. The young mechanic decided to go to the old mechanic and leave his pride behind. He went to the old man’s workshop and asked him for help with the old Rolls Royce. Surprised to see him, the old mechanic analyzes the situation and answers …

How humble do you consider yourself? In this short story, do you consider that the young mechanic learned a lesson in humility?

Many times, we believe we are the best at what we do and sometimes we are but not all the time. I consider myself a follower of Jesus, but as a human being, I know that I am not perfect and many times there are things that the Bible says that are difficult but are necessary. In Philippians 2: 3 it says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”

Often, I consider that I am not humble enough to accept that others are superior to me. In the previous story you can reflect on what the old mechanic’s response would be, his response will reflect … your humility.
