Far from reality.
Have you ever thought that many things that we see as normal, other people see as a luxury? Eating in restaurants represents the daily living in our lives, going to the doctor is normal and netflix represents a very important need in our downtime, otherwise what would we do on our day off?
I could talk about many things that are normal for us. But we often fail to realize there are many people who have never been to the cinema. A few months ago, I had a conversation with a group of young people and one person in our group was of different economic status. In our conversations, we talked about movies and what movies we’ve seen recently.
I watched the person who was of different social status, and I noticed she was silent. I tried to change the conversation, and we moved on to discussing different things. But, at the end of the day, I asked this girl if she’s ever been to the cinema. And, she answered me, “no.” In that moment I felt that I was far from reality.
I do not consider myself an extraordinary person, I do not have a great talent, I am not the best student of my classes or have intelligence superior to all others; simply by the grace of God I was not born in a home in extreme poverty and this has helped me to have the freedom of some things (not saying that I do not have or have not had economic problems because economic problems are daily life for Hondurans.)
Many times we forget that there are people who are starving, people who can not continue studying because they have no place to live. We are so focused on ourselves that sometimes we become self-focused (yes, many times I have been selfish).
God gives us opportunities to have a good job and a good family, but maybe we live better to be able to support others. One of my favorite quotes is “maybe you can not change the world, but you can change a person’s world”.
My dear reader, let’s make this world a better one. Let’s bring hope to the future.
