I can’t even begin to tell you the humbling perspective you experience after witnessing the abject poverty of a 3rd world county. For kids that grow up in an orphanage like Alex, the prospects of breaking out of poverty are very unlikely. Having enrolled him in a school where he will graduate being able to speak English and with a skilled trade, he will no doubt have a fighting chance to achieve just a fraction of a lifestyle that we usually see as a ordinary and expected here in the U.S. (a menial career, small home, hot water and electricity). Our coffee fundraising effort is an opportunity to give back to someone deserving and feel a little more connected to our world community.
